Businesses with electric vehicle fleets are sought for a London vehicle-to-grid trial.
Firms within the M25 with compatible vehicles (Nissan Leaf, Nissan e-NV200 or Mitsubishi Outlander) will be offered free V2G charging equipment, installation, maintenance and support. They will also get access to an app to manage their chargers.
The E-Flex trial involves Cenex, Nuvve, the Greater London Authority, TFL, Imperial College London and E-Car Club.
The trial aims to demonstrate how using car batteries via 10kW two-way chargers can balance the grid at peak times.
It hopes to prove that V2G can reduce the strain mass electrification of transport would place on the UK’s power infrastructure. The consortium then aims to apply its learning to making V2G a commercial, mass-market reality.
The consortium aims to bring in 200 vehicles to the trial.
Those that take part will get to keep any of the savings made from grid balancing/peak reduction until March 2021.
